Biomedical Waste in Water Bodies and Near Residential Complex

In recent days we are able to a lot of expired medicines being dumped near sea shore and we also see a lot of such videos for our awareness. But are we aware of such activities happening around us, or close to our living areas.

Here are few such places where we were able to see expired medicine dumped in Thiruneermalai lake and also Biomedical waste being dumped in Adar river bund. The officials are not aware of such activities or even if complaints are given they don't take it serious.

Here are few clips and photo evidence for you to know how severe issues we have here,

Chennai Farmers - An Endangered Species

There is always a big crowd which is always ready to shout it loud, "Chennai people don't know anything about farming and agriculture".

Yes, I agree their statement. Because, people who left their native and came to Chennai searching for job and started staying in PGs, rented house. After few year of having a career over here in Chennai they decided to settle here permanently, and so wanted to buy a piece of land to construct a house in their budget. They couldn't afford near their work place or within city and so they searched for piece of land near to city, but people their were having farms and doing agriculture.

They were poor people, a lot of people who had land but no money to do irrigation, many who had to pay debts, many who being so close to capital of state were committing suicide due to low income in agriculture, they wanted to give a better life to their next generation but they couldn't give them a day meal.
They became the ultimate targets of these high profile working people who were from outer places, they offered more than the cost of land and bought the land. After buying that piece of land, they got some other idea, instead of building a house for them with a garden and few coconut, moringa tree(drumstick tree) and neem trees and other organic plants. They build an huge apartment without leaving a inch place for garden, and earned big profit.

And today these people say that people of Chennai don't know about farming, come to our native and see how farming is done. They destroyed the farmers of Chennai, and now praise about their native.
Even CM Edapaddi K.Palanisamy in TN assembly said the same words, "Chennai people know nothing about farming".

People of Chennai were farmers, we were forcefully pushed to extinct.

We have still few left out farmers in and around Chennai, please let them live peacefully.

Improper/incomplete storm water drainage - Pallavaram ponds bridge (Kamaraj Nagar)

Location: Pallavaram Ponds bridge (Kamaraj nagar)
Date: 25-Oct-2018
News article on the storm water drainage work near Kamaragar nagar - The New Indian Express (Madhumitha vishwanathan)

On 14th August, 2018, it was raining continuously from from evening 5pm till 11.30pm. I was already late to home, i left office at around 11.10pm, and as the road was empty that late night I reached ponds bridge by 11.30pm.

Nagarathinam street, kamaraj nagar (Pallavapuram ward no.3)
Usually I take left turn over the bridge towards Saravana stores and will take a U-turn in that signal as I need to go via Thiruneermalai main road, but that day I took right turn towards Olympia grande apartment, near Kamaraj nagar and took a u-turn on my left to connect with thiruneermalai road via Kamaraj nagar.

OMG! My bike almost sunk in that flooding water, it was difficult for me to guess weather i will fall or not, because this road has a lot of potholes. Then in the middle of the service road I could find some dry place to stop. I could not accept that a place close to GST road is in such condition. All the streets of Kamaraj nagar were flooding in the middle of that night. Few residents were pouring our the water from their permissives.

I spoke to an Auto driver who just came their and was not able to go further as streets were full of water, "This is not new to me, this happen every now and then when it rains", said Auto driver. Even for an hour rainfall this area floods, he added.

Nagarathinam street

Next day we submitted an online petition to gdp.tn.gov.in and also to CMcell portal stating the issue this people facing and requested the officials to fix them. Still the work is incomplete.

Canal under ponds bridge that takes water to other side of bridge/road.

When asked to local people,

"There is a culvert beneth the bridge which was installed 30yrs ago, which is not spacious to take a large volume of water from one side to another" said Dhamodharan a local resident.

"Not only the storm water drainage canal from Kamaraj nagar, but also the drainage canal from Olympia Grande Apartments and its adjuscent area are all connected here near Kamaraj nagar, this cause a huge volume of sewage/storm water to overflow and cause flood in Kamaraj nagar", said Selvam and Abdul rahman a local youngsters of kamaraj nagar.

"There is a big politics behind this issue, one will blame another and till the end no one will complete the work", said few youngsters of this place.

"A couple of days before officials from Pallavapuram corporation and also from Highway authority came and inspected, but this has happened even before, they will come take photograpgy and will go back and nothing else." Said local people.

There is a biggest question mark, who is responsible for this? who has to do this work? Highway dept, (or) Pallavapuram corp. ? All of them are unanswered.

In the previous government, i.e in the time of DMK the fund of 96 lakh has been allocated for this work, but still no progress seen, say a source.

Currently we are able to see a lot of news on diseases being spread by mosquitoes, such as "dengue" which even lead to death. Already their are several other infection and diseases which are caused due to mosquitoes. Our govt is announcing fine on residents who don't keep their permissive clean and if water stagnation found. But what about these huge stagnation of water in streets and roads which govt itself doesn't fix, who is gonna fine them??

Canal Leading to Adyar river clogged, polluted by sewage

Clogged and polluted canal that will lead to flood if it rain again.

Location: Thiruneermalai Main road (Essar Fuel Station)
22-oct-2019

Lakshmipuram, near Essar fuel station on Thiruneermalai-Nagelkeni main road, a storm water canal crosses across the road. But where as this is more like a sewage drainage canal and does not looks like a storm water drain canal.
Corporation fail to keep this canal clean, but this is not completely Corporation's fault. Every common resident of Lakshmipuram, Salaman Nagar, CLC road, and area around that are responsible for this mess. Garbage and plastic waste from every single residents is being dispose into this canal and thus causing this mess.

Please at-least from now onward reduce the usage of plastic and if you have a plastic waste kindly do recycle.

SIDCO Dumps, drains sewage/Chemical waste in Adyar River (Thiruneermalai)

Chemical wastage from some company located SIDCO, Thirumudivakkam is being disposed near Thiruneermalai service road, adjust to the agriculture field. When We asked them about this they said "It is not sewage sir, its just chemical waste". The truck driver may not know the consequence of this chemical, but the industrialist must have known this. Who will stop them, how are this industry is been authorized? Authorities should inspect and monitor the disposal of industrial waste atleast from now, will they do their responsibility?

When is "Common Education" possible?

Education and that all related to it should be equal to all:

A major sector that is undertaken by government itself. The same government that gives approval to all other private sectors after a list a inspections for the benefit of students who study in those schools. But do they do a self-check? It’s a biggest question mark?
Okay leave the government, do we question the government for not doing such self-check and for not providing proper facilities for these government schools?
Let’s see what our TN government says for getting approval for a Play School;

1.       Building:
·         The School building shall be owned or Leased. If the accommodation is provided in a leased building, the lease agreement shall be made for a period of not less than five years and the said agreement shall be duly registered in the Registration Department
·         The building should be of RCC (Reinforced Cement Concrete) Compound wall all-round the boundary of the building shall be preferable. In case of fencing, barbed wire fencing shall be avoided.
·         There shall be one entrance to the school premises of width directly proportionate to the student strength of the school
·         The school shall provide the minimum space per child in the class room shall be 10 sq. Ft.
·         The classrooms should always be in the ground floor
·         The classroom doors/ windows should be made of either non-combustible material or materials with high fire-resistance rating
·         The classroom doors/ windows shall always open outwards.
·         The classroom doors/ windows shutters when opened should not obstruct movement along the exit or escape route.
·         A Class room shall have two entrances. One door with opening towards the teachers end and the other door on the other end of the class room with only a simple latch / tower bolt arrangement for locking from inside. This door shall not have any arrangement for locking from outside.
·         Adequate number of clean urinals and toilets with water supply should be provided
·         The school shall provide sufficient and safe play area. The play area should be maintained properly by the school.
2.       Amenities:
·         The school shall provide Clean-up, washing facilities including dishes and utensils
·         Potable drinking water should be provided to all the children. Drinking water supply should not be near the toilets
·         Water storage tank/sump should be cleaned regularly. Date of cleaning must be mentioned in the tank/sump. Pipelines should be maintained to prevent leakage and wastage of water
·         Sufficient number of toilets shall be provided. Toilets should be cleaned frequently and maintained properly
·         Changing of diaper facility should be provided to the children
·         Water storage tanks and septic tanks to be closed properly
·         Ample facility to be provided to children for sleeping when required.
For reference download “REVISED DRAFT CODE OF REGULATIONS FOR PLAY SCHOOLS, 2015” from Department of School Education, Tamil Nadu.
The above were the conditions for the play school only. Approval for grade schools will be having few added considerations like,
·         The adequacy of schools already existing in the locality
·         the need for the private school in the locality
·         the number of pupils studying in such school
·         the extent of the playground available to pupils and the adequacy of the playground with reference to the strength of the pupils in the school
·         the amenities available to pupils and teachers
·         the equipment, laboratory, library and other facilities for instruction and training and
·         Such other factors as may be prescribed.
If any of these are not followed then the approval can be rejected permanently of temporarily.
Whereas none of these is being followed in government school.

How a common people sees the difference between any private school and a government school will be visible clearly by seeing the picture below;

·         Normally students of any private schools will be inside the school campus before 8.30am, whereas a government school student will be still on his/her way to school by 9am.
·         A private school student will wear neat uniform, belt, shocks, shoes, tie etc. Whereas a government school student will be wearing old uniform without ironing and will be wearing slippers and some even without that.
·         Teacher cannot use their student for their personal work in private schools but in government school’s teachers will use their students for almost every work.
·         In a private school a 5th grade student will know at least till 12 table but in government school still many don’t even know 2 tables.
·         And list goes on…… Having evidence for everything I say.

You are responsible for all these, when you pay your tax you get a lot of angry. When a Police officer not doing his duty, you say that you get your salary from the tax I pay, when any government officer does anything wrong you say that you all get salary from my tax. Isn’t it?? We feel so proud while telling this, but any of us ever realised that even government school runs by our tax money. Why don’t we question them for not improving the standard of the schools for which you sponsor your tax money? Why not???
You realize that now a day’s private schools are looting a lot of money from parents and this is not going to reduce in future why don’t you focus on improving our government school and educate your kids in that school with your own tax money.

Tiger Cave - Mahabalipuram (A Hidden city underneath sea shore)

Tiger Cave (Chennai)
The Historical place is in Saluvankuppam near Mahabalipuram. This Tiger Cave is one of the Mahabalipuram rock-cut temples constructed by the Pallavas in the 8th century AD.

To the left side is a sculpture of two elephant, looks like a chariot.

I admire that why would someone build such a mysterious Throne, that to about a kilometer distance from actual fort/city (i.e) Mamallapuram. Or if this place use to be in regular use in the time of Pallavas.

Also i doubt if a huge city is underneath sand of these sea shore. Will anyone give answer for it.?
